Further Description
  • Visit Aylsham and the Bure Valley is a new visitors guide to the historic market town of Aylsham and the Bure Valley.  Whether you are visiting this beautiful area of Norfolk for an hour or staying for a few weeks, we hope you'll find all the accommodation, activities, attractions, food and drink and whats on information you need to plan and make the most of the time you have here.Visit Aylsham and the Bure Valley is still being developed and we will continually be adding events to the calendar, new businesses to the accommodation, activities, attractions and shopping pages.  Have a look around and come back soon to see more information.  If you would like to be kept up to date with developments to the site, usually once every 3 months or so, then why not join our mailing list.Aylsham is near the source of the River Bure, about 10 miles (15 kilometres) north of Norwich and about the same south of Sheringham and Cromer.  The town’s recorded names at the time of the Domesday Book were Ailesham and Elesham.  The community predates the Norman Conquest, and the linen and wool industries can be thanked for a great deal of the town’s affluence.  With so much history, easy access to the countryside, Norfolk Broads, coast and city of Norwich, this area of Norfolk is an excellent base for any type of holiday from relaxed to adventurous. The River Bure rises near Saxthorpe and Corpusty, runs through Aylsham, Coltishall, Wroxham and the Norfolk Broads on its path to Great Yarmouth.  A wonderful area of Norfolk to discover for the first time or return to again and again.
