Further Description
  • Rippledown is a charity based near Deal in Kent, whose mission is to provide an enriching educational experience with a focus towards the environment, biodiversity, sustainability and natural history. The centre opened in 1977, and remains to be one of a limited few environmental residential centres in the country.   Rippledown provides an enriching and participatory approach to education which is known to encourage learning and improve social skills. School children including hard to reach learners, and those from built up suburban areas and disadvantaged backgrounds, are given unique opportunities to be involved in non-classroom based activities which are stimulating and fun, whilst having an underlying educational theme. This allows students to gain new skills and knowledge, improving classroom performance and personal development. The centre also runs a number of workshops for adults in sustainable skills, as well as training courses and activity days for local adults and children, which again are known to provide knowledge, skills, and confidence, improving education and employment prospects, and fulfilling personal goals and ambitions. In addition to working with school groups Rippledown is able to offering the following:Weekend workshops and activity days in sustainable building and living; Natural history and wildlife courses; Comfortable accommodation for walkers or other specialist groups set in 3 acres of beautiful grounds; A professional venue to hire for group talks, business meeting etc; andTeacher training daysThe centre is currently running local projects in partnership with Fowlmead Country Park, a coalfield regeneration site, where outdoor nature activities are held for families; and the Deal and Walmer Community Association with it’s Cleary Club Go4Green project.
