Further Description
The Airlie Guest House is a listed building, part of a Georgian Terrace, it is Totally Non Smoking and personally run by proprietors Peter and Fiona Flynn. A warm welcome is offered to all our guests as well as clean comfortable rooms, a good breakfast and reasonable rates. The Airlie is on an excellent bus route with buses passing the Guest House every few minutes. Only a mile from the High Street, five minutes from the Royal Commonwealth Pool and with a wide range of eating and drinking establishments in the immediate area, the Airlie is the perfect base whether you are visiting Edinburgh for business or pleasure. If you are travelling by car we have a large private car park at the rear of the Guest House. We can accommodate our guests in single, double, twin or family rooms, most of which have en-suite shower and toilet facilities. Each of the bedrooms has a wash basin, colour television, tea/coffee making facilities and adjustable central heating and all the windows benefit from secondary glazing. Children under the age of 11 are offered half price rates when sharing a room with 2 adults. Included in the price is a full breakfast which is served between 8am and 9am daily. For those guests who require the use of the telephone during their stay a public telephone is located in the hall, opposite the Breakfast Room. Iron and Ironing Board, Hairdryer, Alarm Clock, and Travel Plug are available on request. We also have a wireless hotspot if you are bringing your laptop with you.We have an excellent bus service with buses passing the Guest House at regular intervals. The bus stop is located 20 yards from the Guest House on the opposite side of the street. A 10 minute journey will take you to Princes Street which is regarded as the centre of the City. A number 3, 29, 31, 37 or 37a bus will take you to Princes street and the exact fare is required, currently this is £1.00. Day tickets are available from the bus driver and cost £2.50, this option may prove more cost effective for you if you intend to use several buses in one day. Just before Princes Street is the Royal Mile also known as the High Street. Any of the buses passing the Guest House will take you as far as the High Street. This street is where the most famous visitor attractions are located. These attractions include Edinburgh Castle, Holyrood Palace, St. Giles Cathedral and John Knox’s House. It is well worth taking a walk down the High Street just to savour the atmosphere. For those of our guests who like to keep fit whether here on holiday or business, we have the Royal Commonwealth Swimming Pool and Leisure Centre only a 5 minute walk from the Guest House. This has an Olympic size swimming pool, a diving pool, children’s pool and a full range of fitness equipment. If you walk past the Commonwealth Pool you will enter Holyrood Part and see Arthur’s Seat - an extinct volcano. There are paths which you can follow to the top and from there you will have a spectacular view of the city. There is also a road which you can drive up and enjoy the views that way.Obviously there is much more to do in and around Edinburgh than those items which have been mentioned above and with this in mind we have compiled several large folders full of information for you to peruse at your leisure. These folders can be found on the table in the entrance hall and the bookcase outside the kitchen. We are fortunate to be located in an area which offers a large choice of evening meals, almost all tastes are catered for locally, Indian, Chinese, Thai, Italian, fish and chips, hotel restaurants, pubs and a coffee house and a tea room. For more information and pictures please have a look at our website onwww.airlieguesthouse.co.uk
