Further Description
  • Walk on Wood Direct LtdSPECIALISTS IN THE SUPPLY AND INSTALLATION OF SOLID OAK FLOORS. Operating locally from Grafham, Oakington and Orton Wistow we are a small , friendly company which has been fitting solid oak ( and other ) floors for the past 7 years. Our floors can be found throughout the region in a very wide range of homes, from ‘ 2 up , 2 downs ‘ through to village manor houses.            Our speciality coincides with the majority market opinion ie. solid oak , but other timbers and engineered floors can be supplied. The fitting of  a solid wood floor is obviously a major investment and decision for any household so we are used to answering a million and one questions on the subject. Some of the more popular Q and A's are summarised below. Included are a few of our experience based opinions where relevant.HOW MUCH?Subject to quantity we can supply a solid oak product for as little as £18 per square metre.Price tends to rise as the quantity required falls and as the width of board increases. We can also supply reclaimed boards (100 years old) but these cost nearer £40 psqm. Obviously these prices are supply only.Wide BoardsFor fitted floors price also depends on extra factors not least the methodology used in fitting and the complexity of the target area. Per square metre , a large simple square lounge may work out at circa £55 to £60 whereas a small intricate hall and downstairs cloakroom ( with pedestals ) may be over £100. This large variation is quite simply due to time factors.      Extra costs will apply for new skirtings etc.WHAT DO YOU SUPPLY?The oak we supply typically is light in colour and might be classified as a Grade 1 Rustic. Our wider boards have some lovely character knots etc. whilst our cheaper strip flooring is of an equally high quality and tends to be slightly more multi-coloured. Matching skirting and architrave may also be supplied. All boards have 4 sided T&G and thickness is usually 20 to 22mm though thinner boards can be produced if required. Our strip flooring is 62mm wide and is supplied in lengths form 400mm to 700mm. It is usually laid in a random format. Our wider boards can be milled for you in widths from 100mm up to 200mm (8 inches) and usually comes in lengths from 1.5 metres up to 3.2 with an average of 2.1+.QUOTATIONSWe are always happy and much prefer to conduct all quotes on site. This way we can consider at first hand the relative complexity and we can produce a quote which does not alter. Any unforeseen problems that arise are dealt with and paid for by us once a price has been agreed. We are usually able to leave samples with you to aid the decision process and are happy to answer as many questions as you can come up with.WE NEVER CHASE QUOTES!  Once we have supplied a quote then ( hopefully ) we have done our job. If further questions arise  you can call. If you decide to go elsewhere then never mind and good luck.LEAD-TIME?Normally, quote to completion will be a minimum 3 weeks to a maximum of about 3 months. Lead time will depend on the size of job , the availability of materials and most importantly our diary of works. It is helpful sometimes to fit whilst you are away so this is a consideration.Supply only orders of our narrow guage oak strip may be as quick as 2 or 3 days whilst wider boards and skirtings etc. are produced to order with a wait time of 2 to 4 weeks.MAINTENANCE & CHARACTERISTICSI would guess that a major consideration for over 50% of customers chosing a solid wood floor is  very low maintenance requirements and enhanced hygiene levels. This is especially the case for families and particularly those with small children , animals or persons with respiratory conditions such as asthma.Quite honestly it's only when you have a floor of this nature that you realise the kind of things that were hanging around
