Further Description
  • A haven of peace and tranquillity…..Set in the heart of the Norfolk Broads, Fairhaven Woodland and Water Garden is one of the county’s best kept secrets.  Boasting the UK’s finest naturalised collection of Candelabra primulas, a 950 year old Oak Tree (home to a family of ducks), and 130 acres of natural Woodland and Water Garden. The Garden was developed by the late 2nd Lord Fairhaven Major Henry Broughton, who bought South Walsham Estate in 1946.  The Estate had been used as a convalescence home for Officers during the Second World War, and so the Garden had become a jungle. Whether you choose to visit in the height of Summer, or in the depths of Winter there is always something to see.  Spring highlights include carpets of Wild Primroses and Wood Anemones (April), numerous nesting waterfowl and the famed Candelabra primulas (last 2 weeks in May).  During the Summer you can enjoy Sunday afternoon concerts in the Glade, or take a relaxing trip on the private Broad where you have the chance to see Kingfishers, Otters and masses of Dragonflies.  October and November bring stunning Autumn colours as the ancient Beech and Oak trees loose their leaves.  The Winter months at Fairhaven sees the brings forth an abundance of migrating birds which over-Winter on the private Broad.     Open daily 10am—5pm (10am-4pm Winter, closed Christmas Day)   Extended opening hours May-August on Wednesday and Thursday evenings (10am—9pm)  Nine miles East of Norwich at School Road, South Walsham, Norwich, Norfolk, NR13 6DZ  For more information;          Telephone             01603 270449 / 270683                                                          Website www.fairhavengarden.co.uk
