  • The FODS mission statement is:Raising money to give our children improved school facilities and activities.FODS is a volunteer group which organises and runs fundraising events for the local school. The Flintshire LEA has only so much funding available and all schools in Flintshire are treated equally. In order for the children at Ysgol Derwen to have access to more equipment and services, the FODS charity was put in place to raise the extra funds needed.There have been two ambitious projects supported by FODS to date. First was the overhaul of the computer suite. This was made possible by a donation from FODS in 2003 of £7100. In 2006, FODS donated £5000 to the school to enable each classroom to have installed the latest in teaching/learning technology. The interactive white boards are a great technical advancement and offers the children more experiences in the classroom.Our next project will be to raise funds to implement the new Foundation Phase. We will begin with our school fete in June with the proceeds going to this new national scheme. The Foundation Phase will change the way our younger children learn - giving them more hands-on experiences and group-based learning. However, all schools will require additional funding for equipment and in some cases, refurbishment.The FODS committee is a very dedicated group of parents, and along with the President (the school's Head Teacher, Mr. Jones) we work hard all through the year to provide entertaining fundraising events for the children and their families. We'd like to thank the parents and neighbours of our school in Higher Kinnerton for your ongoing support of our efforts. Our fundraising events will be listed on this site under the Notice Board. As we are coming to the end of our school year, the final event will be the Summer Fete on June 16th. So, come back to this site in September and see what we have planned for the coming year!
