  •  Andrew A. Matthews is a qualified, skilled & experienced craftsman. He studied at the London College Of Furniture and gained qualifications from City & Guilds in Cabinet Making and an HND in Furniture Restoration & Conservation.Following valuable experience in several London workshops , Andrew established his own business in Cambridgeshire in 1998.Since then he has served private and trade clients, with a great deal of his work coming from many of the Cambridge Colleges, Trinity, Kings & Girton to name a few. He has also undertaken work for nationally recognised collections such as The Fitzwilliam Museum and Kettles Yard House, both situated in the city of Cambridge.During the restoration of a piece of furniture our aim is to return it to its original condition whilst preserving its integrity and patination whereever possible. Through sympathetic use and careful selection of appropriate materials we endeavour to realise the makers original design and intention.Where necessary we are able to conserve the stability and functionality required.We place great emphasis on the conservators principle of reversibility in our repair work. This awareness and practice will allow future restoration to be carried out without harm or damage to the fabric of the object.Drawing on a wide range of freelance specialists Andrew is able to undertake the varied and multiple skills demanded in the restoration & conservation of antique furniture.These include the following; Cabinet Making & Repairs, French Polishing, Modern Spray Finishing, Upholstery, Cane & Rush Seating, Lock & Key Repair & Traditional Hand Veneering.Workshop visits by appointment only.
