  • 1st Gear Driving Academy is based in New Inn and covers an area from Abergavenny down through Pontypool to Cwmbran and Newport. I will also cover any surrounding areas like Usk or Coed-y-Paen.I aim to provide the best possible service by giving Tailored Enjoyable Structured Tuition and offering a competitive pricing policy including discounts for block bookings.I am a fully qualified instructor recommended by the DSA and I use a Renault Clio with dual controls (just in case!).I have an excellent 1st time pass-rate and a friendly relaxed manner, which means that most of my work comes through recommendations and referrals from satisfied pupils.Most of my pupils have at least one and a half hours at a time if not longer, but I can do one-hour lessons if that is what the pupil wants. How long it will take you to complete a course and be ready for your test depends largely on how the individual, according to government figures the average is a little over 40 hours, some pupils will pass easily in half that time others will need longer.I can teach intensively if required, depending on exactly how quickly somebody wants to complete the course... It is possible to learn in a week but I really wouldn't recommend that unless you have some previous experience. About three weeks is usually more practical, less stressful and gives much better results.
