Further Description
  • Its stately name belies the fact that Knole House is, in reality, what remains of an old Sussex flint cottage, for the most part rebuilt in the Fifties. However, it retains much of its original charm, and many features such as the old Ingle-nook fireplace, the kitchen range and extensive joinery throughout. It sits, as you might expect, on a small hill, and the mature gardens slope gently to lawn, cottage borders and many specimen trees. Views take the eye to the Sussex Downs and Devil?s Dyke, the Iron Age Fort on Wolstenbury Hill, and Chanctonbury Ring to the west. You will find Knole House down a very narrow, leafy country lane ? take care, there seem to be horse riders round every bend! Twin or double room with full ensuite facilities, digi TV, coffee and tea pot, views across unspoilt countryside, evening meal available, free transport to Gatwick Airport or British Rail. Continental or Full English Breakfast taken in the cottage kitchen, or ?al fresco? by the waterfall in the tranquil setting of a garden set at the foot of the Sussex Downs, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Gatwick 30mins. Brighton 10miles. London Victoria 1 hour by train. South Downs Way easily accessible, truly delightful walking and cycling, horse-riding, golf, sailing or para-gliding close by. Knole House is a non-smoking home...Nick Bremer is a painter in both oils and watercolours, specialising in local landscapes, and locations around the British Isles and Europe. There is a variety of his works in our letting room, all for sale, and further exhibits can be inspected around the house and studio. His work can also be seen on www.nickbremer.com. Jill is a professional cook, with a degree in Institutional Management and a reputation to match for haute cuisine. She is also qualified to Cordon Vert. Dietary requirements are hence in good hands, but are best mentioned at time of booking. Knole House is also home to Byron and Kipling, our two Pointers, and Toby, the ?Boss Cat?. We all extend the warmest welcome to our guests.
