Further Description
  • Open every day of the week for cask ales and fine winesfrom 12.00 noon - 3.00pm. and from 6.00p.m. - 11.00p.m.Sundays 12.00 noon - 10.30p.m A small stone-built amalgam of extensions, additions and after-thoughts growing from an original 17th century building on the outskirts of Buckingham, The Lone Tree is described in a mortgage dated 1897 as being a smallholding of 3 acres with an Inn selling beer to travellers, a piggery, a gigshed, yard and a garden. You'll be glad to know that the piggery is no more! The name was certainly well-established before 1815 when the Lone Tree appeared on a map of the Buckingham Hundreds.During the 20th century it remained a pub but also sold bread and cheese and other produce from local farms and provided jugs of ale for the farmers in their fields who would send lads over to pick up the jugs and take them back to the workers. We know that in the 30s and 40s the pub had 2 rooms and there was a ladies toilet in the right hand corner of the pub and the men went in the field at the back! The Lone Tree had a cricket team until about 10 years ago with a pitch behind the pub and local children who swam in the river would come in here to warm up by the fire and dry out before returning to their homes in the village. The Lone Tree has always been a true village pub, the heart of the community, whose doors have opened for one and all, welcoming the weary travellers as well as the loyal locals to its own brand of hospitality and warmth The Lone Tree is situated on the A421 between Buckingham and Bletchley / Milton Keynes and is accessible from the M40 via junction 10 or from the M1 via junction 13. The Lone Tree is cosy, warm, rustic welcoming and intimate. What we're not is large!! The restaurant only seats about 30 people, although we do have plans to make it larger in the near future. We're developing a reputation for quality, affordable food prepared from the freshest ingredients and have a list of carefully-selected wines from around the world to accompany it. Or, if you're looking for something more traditional, we always have a selection of lovingly-tended cask ales. The restaurant serves food every day between 12.00 noon and 2.30p.m. and in the evening between 6.00p.m and 10.00p.m. On Sundays, however, we serve right through the day from 12.00 noon until 9.00p.m. There are samples of all our menus on the site. We hope they tempt you to visit us soon. But book early - we fill up quickly!
