Further Description
  • Corbett House, originally the village forge, has been sympathetically extended to provide a comfortable home with many of the original features retained. The renovated barn with a minstrel's gallery where the hayloft used to be is the guest lounge and the adjoining conservatory overlooks a very private cottage garden in the heart of this quiet rural village. Irthington is a small friendly and pretty village with a shop and Post Office, a school and a pub and yet is only 15 minutes from Carlisle, the M6 or the A69. If you are travelling on the M6 we are the ideal relaxing stopover and we will be happy to give directions whether you are north or south bound.Hadrian's Wall and the National Trail ,is only half a mile away making Irthington ideally placed for those walking Hadrian's Wall (our O.S. Grid Reference is NY498617). We have drying facilities for those rare wet days and our packed lunches are excellent value (please let us know about packed lunches the day before you require them) plus we'll fill your flask with tea or coffee. The market town of Brampton, the nearest railway station, is 3 miles away and has a large antiques centre, worth a browse and maybe a haggle if you see something you can't resist. The Roman sites at Birdoswald and Gilsland or the Scottish Borders are easily accessible and there are plenty of local walks if you want a rest from driving. Gretna Green and the Scottish border are 20 minutes or so by car. Carlisle is well worth a visit and the award winning Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery will provide you with a lively introduction to the city, the border country and the Roman occupation. We have two centrally heated rooms available for guests, one en-suite double with a shower and an en-suite twin bedded room with a bath and shower. Tea and coffee facilities are provided in both rooms along with colour TV, a hair dryer and a view of the garden or the open fields. Off street parking is available for our guests. Breakfasts are served in the dinning room overlooking the garden. Your choice from the healthy option, fruit juice and a selection of cereals and muesli to the full English breakfast grilled to perfection. We do like people and every effort is made to ensure your comfort. We look forward to welcoming you to our home.
