Further Description
Since March 2000, this lovely thatched country pub has been under new management. With a warm and relaxed style, you will always be welcomed as a guest in our own home. Children are welcome (until 9pm in the bar), and we have a large enclosed garden with open field views and play equipment, including indoor toys and books. In March 2002 we were shortlisted amongst the top six pubs in the country in the coveted national Publican Awards in three categories: Family Pub of the Year, Newcomers of the Year, and Marketing Pub of the Year. The building has wonderful inglenook fireplaces (ask about the haunted chimney!), and a wealth of beams. The pub has plenty of history attached to it too, and during World War II it was the favourite drinking spot for many Battle of Britain flying aces including the famous hero Sir Douglas Bader. Our main menu changes every season, and the emphasis is on homemade food which is a mix of both traditional and modern styles. In addition, we also have a fresh pizza menu (which offers both an eat-in and takeaway service seven days a week) and an exciting children's menu, as well as blackboard specials. Take a look too at our nationally commended wine list which also changes every season. We serve a traditional Sunday Lunch every week too (booking advisable). Attached to the main pub is our wonderful Grade II Listed Barn which has been sympathetically converted into a superb function room capable of holding just under 300 people. The Barn plays host to many exciting events throughout the year, and is also available for private hire including weddings, parties, corporate entertaining and trade shows. The Barn is also a fully licensed venue for civil wedding ceremonies. Both the pub and the Barn are very easy to find on the B1150, and we have two large car parks providing easy parking.Opening Times: we are open seven days a week from noon-2.30pm during lunchtimes and from 6pm-11pm during evenings (7pm-10.30pm on Sundays). Food Serving Times: food is served from opening until 2.30pm lunchtimes and approximately 9.30pm evenings. Free Mailing List: if you would like to keep up to date with forthcoming events and special offers please contact us by phone, fax or email, or visit our website.
