Visiting us LocationThe Museum is situated in the town of Barnard Castle in County Durham, just off the A66, 20 minutes by car from the A1, 40 minutes from the M6 and 40 minutes from Teesside Airport.Darlington is the nearest railway station and is regularly served by high speed trains from London (2 hrs 30 mins), York (30 mins), Newcastle (30 mins) and Edinburgh (2 hrs).Bus services operate from Bishop Auckland (every 2 hours), Darlington (every hour) and Richmond. A daily service from Newcastle to Blackpool stops in Barnard Castle. Access A wheelchair is available for visitors with mobility difficulties. With the exception of five of the archaeology galleries on the ground floor, all parts of the Museum are easily accessible. Parking is available close to a special entrance with an intercom to reception. An accessible toilet is located on the ground floor. Guide dogs are welcome. Caf� BowesCaf� Bowes is licensed and serves light meals, snacks and drinks. Gift ShopThe Museum's gift shop sells a range of publications, greetings cards, gifts and souvenirs related to the exhibitions. Library The Museum's reference library is staffed by the Friends. It is open to readers on Thursdays 2.00pm-5.00pm. Advance reservations are recommended.Children We welcome children. Activity sheets are available from reception. Baby changing facilities are located on the ground floor. Pushchairs are welcome.
