  •  Reproduced by kind permission of The Bury Times.Green scheme for bowling areaBy Staff ReporterENVIRONMENTALLY-friendly Hollins youngsters have certainly shown their "green" credentials.Around 60 Year 5 and Year 6 pupils at Hollins Grundy primary school have planted more than 200 plants in their effort to improve the grounds of Hollins Village Community Bowling Green. The pupils were helped by Hannah Williams, Groundwork Bury community project officer, Paul Robinson, local nature reserves officer and Phil Roe, park ranger. The planting day was the completion of a project funded by Greening Greater Manchester and run by Groundwork Bury which involved the pupils surveying the site, researching and identifying appropriate plants and designing a planting plan.Winning designs were submitted by both year five and six pupils and were judged by members of Hollins Village Community Bowling Green sub group.Pam Taylor, secretary of Hollins Village Community Association Bowling Club said: "This is a fine example of partnership working between the club, the school and, of course, Hannah Williams and the Groundwork Trust - without whom none of this would be possible."The work that Hannah has undertaken with the children is fantastic, from the planning and design stage to the planting itself. The whole community will benefit from this wonderful scheme. My thanks also go to everyone else who has helped to make this possible."11:42am Sunday 6th January 2008
