  • Osteoporosis Screening Services will be screening at the Complementary Health Partnership on Thursday 8th October 2009.  We use a Cuba Clinical Ultrasound machine which is quick, accurate, painless, non-invasive and inexpensive.  Results are explained at the time and information is given on diet, exercise and supplements.  More than 1 in 2 women and 1 in 5 men will have an osteoporosis-related fracture in their lifetime.  As loss of bone cannot be seen from the outside, a fracture can occur before osteoporosis has been diagnosed, hence its title 'the silent epidemic'.  There are several risk factors, some of which are:  family history of osteoporosis; early natural or surgical menopause; long term steroid use; anorexia; alcohol or tobacco abuse; infrequent exercise; overactive/underactive thyroid; lack of sunshine; poor nutrition.  Adults of all ages stand to benefit from an ultrasound scan to establish their bone status because the future likelihood of osteoporosis can be predicted and, with treatment or lifestyle changes, can possibly be prevented.   For further information and prices, please telephone Karen on 01702 589690.
