Further Description
During the latter years of WW II, thousands of children (some alone, some with Mum's and many without parents) were evacuated out of London. They were sent to orphanages (we called them 'homes' in those days), squatters, foster homes... literally anywhere that could put a roof over their heads. East Anglia was a favoured spot for this evacuation, deemed safer than being close to larger cities. Huntingdon was a very small town back in those days, living off the land, for there was hardly any manufacturing plants as there are now. The children went to many schools set up by the CofE, with Walden Road being the main one in Huntingdon town during the late 1940's early to mid 50's. The attached picture shows just one class.. should anyone recognise themselves, or better still be aware of the fortunes of other classmates, then please contact the writer, with a view to trying to set up a reunion. The picture was, at a guess taken in 1952 Class of 1952 Description Reading from Top left David Carrol, Brian Edwards, John Cunnington, Anthony Clarke, Leslie Brown, Reggie Mobbs, John Bycroft, Anthony Scott.
