Further Description
  • Otterham & St Juliot’s much-loved Village Hall is falling down and funds are desperately needed for a new building. But, nothing daunted, when they heard that their application for a lottery grant had failed, members of the hall committee rolled up their sleeves and set to work to raise the money themselves. An appeal has been launched for the £250,000 they need for a replacement hall. And a programme of fundraising events is being planned, including barn dances, quiz nights and a summer garden scheme. As part of the fundraising programme, a website that will bring the Village Hall Appeal to the attention of a wider public has been instigated. The website is now up and running and the little communities of Marshgate, Otterham and St Juliot are pinning their hopes on its success. Hall secretary Val Gill commented: “The website will enable people to read about the hall, the people who use it, and the activities that take place there. We are hoping to reach a wide audience of potential donors who love Cornwall and care about its future. Our presence on the internet makes it possible for Cornish exiles around the world to monitor our progress and – hopefully – send us a donation.” There are at least a couple of ways you can help with this appeal. Go to www.otterhamandstjuliothall.org and send a donation to the treasurer, or copy the website address into your own correspondence and let everyone know about the appeal, especially everyone you know who loves Cornwall.  Val Gill, the rest of the committee, and all the current users of the hall will be very grateful.
