  • The Epsom and St Helier Trust have recently voted to close the maternity department, and transfer all inpatient services to St Helier.  This is despite the fact that Epsom’s maternity department conforms to all current guidance from the Department of Health and the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, whereas St Helier DOES NOT!If these closures continue, it will leave a gaping hole in essential hospital care in and around the Epsom area, with patients having to travel ~30 mins+ (on a good day, out of rush hour!) to access other hospitals such as East Surrey (Redhill), Kingston, St Helier, Guildford, St Peters (Chertsey) and Mayday University (Thornton Heath).  Many of these are already under strain to deal with patient numbers.HOW YOU CAN HELPStart by joining us in the fight to save Epsom’s maternity department from closure.  The Trust is basing its decision on false claims about the safety rules that apply to Epsom Hospital (see above) but the fight is not over yet!  The decision to close maternity is yet to be approved following a public consultation this autumn.  Therefore, we must keep up public pressure and ensure a mass response. Make your voice heard by:- TAKING a moment to fill out an on-line survey at www.saveourhospitals.co.uk .The survey will be published once finished and given to the Board to prove what the people require (as Tax payers) in our local area.Details will also be emailed to people who added email address to survey and put in local papers for all to see.
