Further Description
  •   A letter of support from the Gresford Community Council has recently been sent to the Highways Department asking for the speed limit to be reduced to 30mph along the whole of Marford Hill, in line with the express wishes of the 500 people who signed a petition to this effect in 2003, and the request of those living on the Hill and most immediately affected by the problems associated with speed. The Highways department have agreed with this measure, however cannot give an idea when this might happen. Last September we were told that there was a waiting list of forty requests for changes, and funds only permit around five speed limit alterations per year, suggesting an 8 year wait.As the recent arrangement was carried through within twelve months in 2003/2004, using flawed statistics and ‘discretion' in the interpretation of certain regulations, maybe the Highways Department could be persuaded to carry out the correction to the speed limit sooner rather than later.Approximately 100 families from Sunnyridge Avenue, Ridgeway and Woodridge Avenue use the Sunnyridge Avenue junction as their main access the B5445. A questionnaire exercise completed last September by seventy of the hundred households revealed that in the course of a week, domestic use of the junction totalled 1200 exits/entries. Scale this up to 100, then add to this usage by services, tradespeople, and visitors. It suggests that actual usage of the junction could amount to 1800 - 2000 weekly. Anyone using it will know that this is a dangerous junction, very close to a blind bend round which cars, even travelling at the current speed limit of 40mph,  have difficulty reacting to allow those legitimately exiting the junction to manoeuvre. Heavy lorries and buses have no chance of stopping within the distance, even when they are driving within the 40mph limit. The danger affects all users, both exiting the junction and those using the B5445 itself.
