Further Description
Sport has been the key element of the early part of the Gala Week.A series of inter school challenges involving basketball (mixed event) and football (boys) saw each of the three local primary schools enter two sides in each competition. Basketball and football thus had two three team leagues with the winners of each league meeting in the final, the winner to receive the Crummock Scotland trophy. Each event having a trophy and the winning team members were also presented with medals. Both finals were recorded for the annual Gala Video or CD which can be purchased through the Gala Committee (contact A McLaren 0131 440 3830).The Basketball final was between Loanhead and Paradykes saw the boys and girls of Loanhead hold of the Paradykes challenge to retain for the second year the much wanted trophy. Medals will be given at school to the winning players who were C King, K Davidson, D Cornet, H Reid and S MacLeod. Our thanks also to Laura Simpson and Ailsa Simpson for their excellent refereeing. Also Paradykes School for the use of the facilities. Football at the local leisure centre all weather pitches proved highly entertaining with the final contest between St Margaret's and Paradykes with the boys of Paradykes winning by 3 goals to 1. Again the trophy returned to the previous years winning location. The boys who made up the winning side were F Smith, R & J Gunning, N Gibson, G Hibberd and K Airlie. The two nights saw some fine competition and a great deal of fun for the people viewing and the kids taking part. The Children are a credit to the Schools they representAlex Jones Gala Chairman
