Further Description
  • Greg via email: greg@wips.co.uk.Greg lives in Ashorne near Warwick and is a partner with Warwick Financial Services LLP.West Midlands man in new World Record attemptWindsurfing fanatic, Greg Jones, is to attempt to set the world record for the greatest distance covered on a windsurfer and raise much needed funds for two of the West Midlands' Hospices. The Guinness World Record bid will take place at Draycote Water near Rugby and will see Greg, who has been windsurfing for 20 years, aiming to cover 100 miles of water in one 24-hour period on his windsurfer. If he succeeds, he will have set a world record for the greatest distance covered on a windsurfer on an inland body of water in a continuous 24-hour period as well as, through sponsorship, raised between 10,000 and 15,000 for The Acorn Children?s Hospice in Birmingham and Myton Hospice in Warwick. "I have been training since Christmas, mainly concentrating on work in the gym, on the rowing machine and circuit training to build up my strength and stamina," says Greg, "as well as intensive warm weather and water training on the board in Tenerife in June."I feel sure I can succeed in setting the endurance record - the only factor I can't control is the weather, and obviously the amount of wind on the day will be critical."The challenge will give me the chance to give something back to the local community by raising funds for Myton Hospice, which specialises in caring for adults with terminal illness, and the Acorns Children's Hospice which cares for life-limited children."Greg says that his stamina and consistently strong winds are the key logistical factors for staying on his windsurfer and setting the World Record - although he will be allowed to take as many breaks as he needs, with the record being based on the overall distance completed.Sponsorship pledges can be made directly to Greg on 01926 400441
