There are 148 clients, some of which have a weekly day out by attending two centres.Staff3 Part-time (2 Part time organisers manage the project.Volunteers 64 Volunteers in totalThe Mobile Day Centre operates at 8 Village centres (per fortnight) in isolated rural areas. A 12-seater mini-bus tows a caravan unit to the village hall in use for the day and together with a team of local volunteers, the driver sets up the unit and then helps volunteers in setting up the village halls with tables, chairs and equipment for the day. The driver then uses the mini-bus to collect clients within about a six-mile radius. Volunteers with cars also help to collect clients. At the end of the day all clients are transported back to their homes. The members/clients arrive at 10.30 a.m. and stay until 3.30 p.m. They have socialisation, various activities such as games, quizzies, craft work and gentle exercises to music. A hot nourishing meal is provided at lunchtime. On certain days members have trips out to places of interest. Clients also have talks from representatives from the Citizens Advice Bureau, Benefits Agency and other relevant organisations and charities. Our caravan is used by clients for hairdressing (we have two hairdressers), footcare and handcare (we have a qualified chiropodist), health checks and confidential matters.During a typical month we will have 356 members attending Day Centres of which 233 will be experiencing some physical or sensory difficulities, some 26 will be suffering from some form of mental problem and others will be suffering from loneliness, isolation, depression or lack of sufficient funds to live anything but a very restricted lifestyle. Most members will have been referred by Physchiatric Nurses or Social Workers, District Nurses or GPs, Ministers of the Church, families or friends. More people know about the service we offer now and are taking advantage of it.SPECIAL FEATURESThe Mobile Day Centre offers a variety of services and facilities not available to people in rural areas unless they have access to transport. The Mobile Day Centre has become a focus in village communities offering services to the community at large, i.e. hairdressing, footcare, access to CAB or Benefits Agency advice, etc.The Mobile Day Centre contributes to the support of the village infra-structure by using Village Halls, Village shops, Post Offices and Surgeries. etc.Attendance at the Mobile Day Centre means that potentially "at risk" people are regularly monitored. If they do not attend, this is checked out and where appropriate or necessary, other agencies may be contacted to assist or assess needs. There are outings to special places of interest. The Mobile Day Centre provides opportunities for volunteering to people in isolated Villages whose lives are also restricted by lack of transport.Volunteers are offered out-of-pocket expenses and training. Most attend first aid courses, moving and handling and health and hygiene. They are also able to attend other training courses that are relevant to Age Concern.Regular meetings are held for volunteers and they are included in all levels of organisation, planning and evaluation of the project. We also have user representation on these meetings.
