  • This information is addressed to the folks of Griston to bring them up to date with the progress being made in securing the former Wayland Prison Social and Welfare Club as our local Community Centre.Negotiations are still ongoing with the Home Office about some details of the contract that has to be arranged before we can take over the property but it seems to be just a matter of detail now before we can reach an agreement with them.At the last public meeting in the Church, which was well attended, a significant number of villagers expressed an interest in being involved in developing the future use of the building for our community. The objective of this leaflet is to take that interest to the next stage in that ideas and proposals are welcomed about the scope and type of activities that the building could be used for.We have to recognise that our Community Centre has to be self-funding and that our ability to secure grants and funding from external sources is still uncertain at this stage. The only way in which the Centre will prosper and thrive is if we, as a community, accept the benefits it will bring to young and old and offer their support, and just as importantly, their interest, in developing a facility that will bring many benefits to us all, again young and old.
