  • Saddleworth Musical SocietyThe society was formed in September 1958 and continues to be the only Society in the Saddleworth area performing a varied annual programme of choral and musical items with full orchestrea.SMS is a registered charity. No. 503676 and is affiliated to the National Operatic and Dramatic Association. (NODA)The annual programme includes:    A show/operetta in October    A Christmas charity concert in December    A spring choral concert in MayOther activities, including social events, are also held during the year.The normal rehearsal night is Thursday, 7:30pm to 9:45pm, at the Lee Street Centre, Uppermill.We pride ourselves on our choral ability,  but like many amateur societies we require more members, particularly tenors!Non-singers are also welcome to help front-of-house or backstage.Subscriptions are set at a level that recovers the fees we have to pay for the rehearsal rooms and for the general running expenses of the Society. (2008/2009 - £34 to £55). Concerts and shows are budgeted to return a small profit.The next event in our calendar is Cole Porter's musical farce, 'Anything Goes'
