Further Description
  • The Choir of Shill Valley and Broadshires Benefice is a small, friendly group of singers who are keen to invite more people to join them. Membership for the senior choir is free and singers of all abilities are welcomed. The choir is led and supported by David New, who also leads the local Junior (children’s) choir, (run separately) along with being the Music Director at Bampton Church, being an experienced musician and organist. The senior choir sing a range of music (mainly sacred, but not all!) from simple and satisfying Canons to more complex Choral arrangements both with and without accompaniment – normally in 4 parts. The main aims of the choir are to share an enjoyment of music, as well as helping lead the services that we sing at, so please spread the word and bring yourselves along to rehearsal – it is often quite a social occasion, and certainly worth trying once under no obligation! The Junior 'children's' Choir is a more recent addition and is based at St Christopher's Primary School, Langford. At the moment we have children aged 7 upwards, with an emphasis on making singing fun. All children are welcome, whether they are believed to have musical or singing talent or not. As time goes on and numbers grow, we hope to subdivide this choir into age and ability. A small termly charge is currently made to cover costs. The Senior choir meet to sing on Tuesday evenings 7.30pm till 9pm in the Kencot Village Hall and the first Sunday of each month in one of the thirteen churches of the Benefice. The Junior Choir meet at St Christophers, Langford at 6pm during term-time: the aim is to produce something for performance at the end of each term.Contact David for further information on 01993 841807, 07850 064775 or david@glebourton.fsnet.co.uk
