Further Description
Holy Cross Church is the Parish Church of Woodingdean and is the only Church of England church in the village serving a community of some 10000 residents.Together with St. Wulfrans Ovingdean, St. Margarets Rottingdean, St. Nicholas Saltdean and St. Cuthmans Whitehawk, we are part of the ‘Deans and Whitehawk Group Ministry’. The modern church building stands in its own grounds adjacent to the vicarage. Limited onsite parking is available with spaces for six cars, two of which are for disabled parking. However, ample free on-street parking in the road directly outside the church, and also in the close-by adjoining roads, is available.Inside it comprises an open-plan style main church directly connected via sliding partitions to the adjacent parish hall/room which itself is also partitioned into two sections allowing separate or combined use of the total area. Full kitchen facilities adjoin the parish hall. The church has fixed seating for about 120 people but extra accommodation is available by opening the partitions to the parish hall where further seats can be laid out. Both the church and hall have modern heating systems and full facilities are provided for disabled persons regarding wheelchair access and toilets. An induction loop system for hearing aids is operational in the main church and large print service sheets are provided for the visually impaired. As well as the normal devotional services, the open-plan style of the interior enables the church and hall to be quickly converted for use in a variety of very different ways. These vary from small group meetings in the hall only (PCC, Brownies, Male Voice Choir, etc.) through medium size functions (Harvest supper, private parties, quiz evenings, weekly luncheon club, social gatherings, etc.) to larger functions where the church and hall are combined together (Christmas Fairs, auctions, dances and discos, musical and dramatic productions, etc.)We believe we have something here to suit all and we warmly welcome everyone to come and join with us to praise and worship God and to share in the community life and spirit of our church. We look forward to seeing you at any of our services or events in the near future.Be assured - a warm welcome awaits you.
