Further Description
‘GET-SET-GO’ and get active with Stratford District Council! If you are aged 45 or over – we want you! Regular exercise keeps you healthy - your Active Communities Team is here to support you – we have developed a range of activities, which include ‘GET Active’ sports and activity sessions held at a selection of local leisure centres, ‘SET the pace’ free guided health walks in market towns throughout the district, and ‘GO Green’ exercise initiatives which combine gardening on allotments and vegetable patches with raising awareness of healthy eating. It’s well known that regular physical activity may contribute to reducing your risk of coronary heart disease, strokes, some cancers, obesity, diabetes, osteoporosis, dementia and other mental health problems. We will help you by getting you on the right track and motivating you to keep up the good work. Just 30 minutes of moderate physical activity a day on 5 or more days of the week is enough to get fitter, healthier and happier. By joining us, it’s a way for you to enjoy your community or explore the countryside surrounding your home, try new things, get out and about, be sociable by meeting new people, and most importantly, have fun! ‘GET ACTIVE’ (Small fee applies - payable to Leisure Centre hosting the session) DROP-IN ACTIVITY SESSIONS Alcester Grammar School Monday 7-8pm £1.50Alcester Greig Lifestyles Centre Thursday 10am-12pm £1.00Stratford Leisure & Visitor Centre Friday 11am-1pm £1.10 Come and play sport just for fun, or why not challenge others to a game? Suitable for all levels and abilities - no experience is necessary and equipment is provided, but please feel free to bring your own if you want to. Activities include table tennis, badminton and indoor short mat bowls (subject to availability – as there is a maximum capacity at some venues), indoor ‘quick’ cricket, ball games and quoits. ‘SET THE PACE’ FREE GUIDED HEALTH WALKS Walking is a great way to improve your health in a safe, sociable and enjoyable way. We can accommodate a variety of levels and abilities – trained walk leaders will lead each walk through the countryside surrounding the towns and villages the walks start from. Some of the walks have options tailored specifically to meet your own needs, goals and fitness levels - you can either join us for a shorter route, which will last about an hour, or stay for a longer more challenging walk which will last for about an hour and a half. No specialist equipment is necessary – just dress appropriately for the weather and wear comfortable sensible outdoor shoes or trainers. ALCESTER WALKS from the Greig Lifestyles Centre 10.00am Tuesdays Varied cross country routes along local public footpaths around the town. This walk takes you over fields and hills and through wooded areas, enjoying stunning views of the surrounding landscape. Independent more challenging longer routes are also available lead by a trained volunteer. Walkers regularly have a social get together in a local café after their walk. BIDFORD-ON-AVON WALKS from the bridge across the Avon 10.30am Mondays This walk alternates between a small number of popular scenic routes such as along the River Avon to Marlcliff; around the golf course; and to Broom village. Walkers are welcome to stop for refreshments after their walk at the local village bakery and café. STUDLEY WALKS from the Youth Centre 2.30pm Wednesdays As for Alcester. STRATFORD WALKS from Stratford Leisure & Visitor Centre 10.30am Wednesdays Well-known routes along the tramway and recreation ground, through the town or by the canals and river on mainly flat tarmac surfaces and paths.
