  • The villages of Rhydymwyn and Hendre nestle in a beautiful wooded valley to the east of the Clwydian Rangewith Moel Fammau as the magnificent backdrop. The villages sit alongside the A541 Mold-Denbigh roadand are respectively 3 miles and 5 miles northwest from Mold The Rhydymwyn and Hendre Community Groupwas formed to help to integrate the communities and inform them of local events and our new web site ishopefully going to play a small part in fulfilling that role  The Rhydymwyn and Hendre Community Group was formed as a result of a public meeting held on 03/10/07 to which all residents of Rhydymwyn and Hendre were invited. A ruling committee was formed which met on 10/10/07 and it was agreed to raise funds both to support on-going activities, in English and Welsh, and where appropriate plan and execute new initiatives in line with their aims.        The aims of the group are To provide support for activities that help to integrate the communities and that promote a sense of community giving opportunities to all and encouraging a sense of place and well being To encourage interaction between young and old and thus create better understanding, better support and improved relationships To make use of existing facilities and thus secure their future in our communities After a Race Meeting held at The Oak in Hendre to raise funds a very successful Village Fete and Folk Evening was held at the Football Club on Saturday 19th July. The event was formerly opened by Mr Brenin Williams our local Welsh Assembly representative                                               From the History Page When the famous German composer Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy visited his father 's friend, John Taylor, (himself a famous mining engineer and entrepreneur) and his family and stayed at their home at Coed Du in 1824, he would undoubtedly have passed the Rhydymwyn Corn Mill, which stood opposite Mill House and the lead smelting works below Coed Du. While at Coed Du, Mendelssohn wrote several works including The Rivulet;, inspired by the beauty of the countryside.Charles Kingsley, author of The Water Babies came and walked the Leete and both his and Mendelssohn's visits are commemorated by a plaque in Nant Alyn Road in Rhydymwyn.From the Church PageThe new parish of Rhydymwyn was created by an Order in Council, dated 31 March 1865.Archdeacon Thomas (1911) gave the area of the parish as 2274 acres.The foundation stone of the new parish church, dedicated to St. John the Evangelist, was laid on 1 August 1861,and the church was consecrated on 17 September 1864.In 1831 it is recorded that Rhydymwyn was not a separate parish but in 1901 the population of the parish was noted as 584.The web site includes sections on the The Rhydymwyn and Hendre Community Group History of Rhydymwyn and Hendre, The Parish Church of St John the Evangelist, Information on all our Local Organisations and Groups, Links to our local pubs, The Oak and The Antelope, Information of the meetings held by Cilcain Community Council, A regularly updated Whats On Page, Details of Local Attractions,  Listings from Local Business,  Links to other sites and lots of useful Contact Numbers.
