DEVELOPING YOUNG ENTREPRENEURS IN LONDON NORTH Encouraging enterprise and entrepreneurship in young people has been identified as a priority area by governments at a local, national and international level. The benefits are not just economic, however. There are clear social and environmental benefits that can be felt in local communities, especially with the rise of social enterprise. Communities with a culture of enterprise can help to reduce social exclusion through the creation of additional employment and wealth. Young Enterprise is a national business education charity that has the mission to inspire and equip young people to learn and succeed through enterprise. In London North it runs a variety of programmes with students as young as 5 up to 25. These deal with important issues entrepreneurship, innovation, career development, being an entrepreneur and the role of business. Volunteers from local businesses are critical to the success of these programmes. All programmes are run on the basis of ‘learning by doing’.
