Further Description
  • P.L.A.Y.(Playground for Leigh’s Active Youth) The objective is to redesign and equip a playground for the village of Leigh in Surrey (www.leigh-surrey.org).  The existing play area is owned by the village, but remaining equipment is sparse and moribund. Leigh has minimal public transport and few facilities for young people.   P.L.A.Y. (www.leigh-play.org.uk), having discovered what the different age groups want of the play area, the group examined three proposals and estimates, and selected a firm which quoted £120,000.  The group, inaugurated in April 2007, is looking at ways of reducing the cost by, for example, using the Forestry Commission to supply the larger wooden structures. A re-equipped facility would provide the community with a source of healthy activities for children of Leigh and surrounding areas aged between three and sixteen.  The plans have an emphasis on equipment for the differently abled, and have the support of the Parish Council, and County Council, and the principal village organisations.
