  • Exeter Artspaces is a not-for-profit, artist-led organisation set up to offer affordable studio space to artists and makers. We exist for the benefit of both studio users and a wider community of artists and their audiences across the region.Not-for-profit means we charge our members only what it costs to run the space and the associated organisation. There are no paid positions. Any surplus is re-invested in the organisation.Artist-led means the organisation is run by the artists, not for the artists. All full members share responsibility for the organisation and upkeep of the studios.Affordable means managing our shared resources to keep costs as low as possible and collaborating to apply for grants and sponsorship when possible.We are currently based at a temporary studio building in Central Exeter. From here, we plan to move on to establish more permanent studios in the city, ideally with the help of commercial or public sector partners. Who we areThe government regulator has agreed that our organisation operates in the interests of the community and allowed us to be incorporated as a community interest company (CIC).We are a company limited by guarantee with a large membership. The CIC has five directors who run the business aspects of our organisation. We offer full membership (with voting rights) to studio users and associate membership to other artists.We are a not-for-profit operation and there are no paid posts within the organisation. Members subsidise the cost of the spaces by providing their time, skills and expertise to the project free of charge.Exeter Artspaces CIC is a company limited by guarantee with a large membership, registered in England and Wales, company number 06385979.StudiosWe have short-term space for 25 – 30 artists at 4 Red Lion Lane, off Sidwell Street. The lease runs until June 2009 latest. Facilities are basic (given the temporary nature of our tenancy) but include 24-hour access, parking, natural and artificial light, access to power points, access to a shared work sink, kitchen facilities, loo and some outside workspace.We have spaces ranging from approximately 140 sq ft to 250 sq ft. Prices start at around £76.00 per calendar month inclusive of services and utilities, with three months rent payable in advance. Spaces may be shared, subject to an additional studio user fee.
