Further Description
  • North East Derbyshire Organ SocietyFounded in 1984 by a small group who met to pursue their common interest in organs and the enjoyment of making music, NEDOS has grown over the years to become one of the UK’s foremost organ societies with over 200 members.  Members meet at the Markham Hall, Staveley, near Chesterfield. On the third Wednesday of every month (commencing at 8:00 p.m.) we present a concert in the Markham Hall. We take great pride in the quality of our artistes, our professional presentation and friendly welcome and our concerts, which feature nationally and internationally renowned stars of the organ world as well as some up-and-coming young stars of the future, regularly attract visitors from South and West Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and often even further afield. There is a licensed bar and refreshments are served during the interval.Everyone is welcome and we are always particularly pleased to welcome visiting members from other organ societies around the country. Each year our concert programme is carefully planned to include a variety of artistes whose contrasting musical styles and sounds vary from orchestral and light classics through to jazz, big-band and the familiar sounds of the Mighty theatre organ. However, we do try to avoid serious classical recitals, Rap and Heavy Metal!  It is usual for our artistes to supply their own equipment, which provides our audiences with an opportunity to hear a variety of both players and instruments. The Markham Hall (Miner’s Welfare Club)Market Street, Staveley, ChesterfieldJust around the corner from Morrisons Supermarket.Admission £4.00 on the door - accompanied children FREELicensed Bar, RefreshmentsFor further details telephone 1246 411814 email: info@nedos.co.uk or visit our website at www.nedos.co.uk Concert Programme 2008  January 16th  JOHN BOWDLER It’s the first of our 2008 concerts and one not to be missed!Since the age of sixteen, John has been one of the team of organists at the World-famous Blackpool Tower ballroom where he entertains thousands of holidaymakers throughout each summer season for dancing or simply to listen to what is probably the UK’s most famous pipe organ - The Mighty Wurlitzer.  February 20th  RYAN EDWARDS   Ryan has become renowned for his big sound and stunning musical arrangements that span all styles and eras from classics to orchestral, musicals to pop.Ryan understands the need to inspire new interest in the organ especially amongst his own generation by appealing to both traditional and modern tastes.
