Further Description
In July 2006 my daughter Kerri was diagnosed with major depression and in October 2006 I also learned she was self-injuring. It soon became apparent that, apart from general carer’s groups, there was a distinct lack of support specifically geared toward those who self-injure and their families/carers in the St Helens area. With this in mind, Kerri and I are in the process of setting up a new initiative aimed at campaigning for the rights and understanding of those who self-injure and their families. Our first project is a self-help group for those who self-injure and our second project is a support group for parents/carers of those who self-injure. Therefore, if you care for somebody who self injures, please contact us for an informal chat on the contact number or email address below. Many thanks,Maureen I think a lot of parents and families simply don’t know what to say or do when they find out their child/relative is self-injuring, and this can be just as difficult for the person experiencing it, as it is for the family.Support and understanding from my family is a huge help to me and I’d like to think that any other person who self-injures can have that same support – which is why I’m fully supporting my mum’s decision to start a support group. At the same time, I also know how difficult it can be for the person who is self-injuring. I want to do my best to help other people who maybe experiencing such difficulties, and wish to provide them with a safe place where they can talk openly and honestly with other people who know what it is like. I want to create a non-judgemental environment, in which people are not afraid to say how they really feel. If you are interested in finding out more or would like to come along to the group, please contact us on the telephone number or email address so you can talk further with one of us.Thank you for your support, Kerri Carer’s support group starts 24th October 2007, 10-12pm and will be held at the Carer’s Centre, Baldwin Street, St Helens. Support group for those self injuring starts 31st October 2007, 10-12 pm and will be held in the Millenium Centre, St Helens. Telephone: 07964 226657 Email: kj.nosecrets@googlemail.com
