Further Description
  • The Brunswick Square Central Lawn Association was originally formed in 1825 by the Brunswick Square property owners to manage the newly laid out gardens for their exclusive use and enjoyment. The single open space, which is today the Central Lawn, was created by an agreement in 1825, which saw the removal of fences that separated a collection of various individual parcels of land to enable a splendid amenity to be created which all the owners could share with reciprocal benefit. The Association continues to this day to maintain and manage the area of lawn and gardens within the central area of the Square. The lawn and gardens are still privately owned by the same properties that surround the Square, except that today the public are permitted access to the gardens, subject to the 'Rules of the Association'. The Rules are upheld by a duly elected Committee (elected annually by the Subscribers and the Owners) who are appointed to manage and maintain the lawn and gardens on their behalf. The principal function of the Committee is to raise funds, collect subscriptions from the many Friends and Subscribers of the Association and generally to manage the gardens.
