Further Description
  • Aslockton Community Association was established in 2004, primarily to implement the Parish Plan.In 2007 we were awarded 'charity' status - number 1119677. We continue to work to benefit the whole community.    We produce a quarterly newsletter called Aslockton Voice which is delivered free of charge to each household; we welcome newcomers with a Welcome Pack showing useful local information, and pay for www.Aslockton.org to be mananged. As an 'umbrella' group,  we encourage and bring together groups within the community.   The Cranmer Youth Club is reforming to cater for the 10-13 age group.   Eventually it is hoped to widen the age range.A joint administrative committee has been formed to bring together many of the users on the local playing field - to work towards the common good.In August 2007 a successful bid was made to the Big Lottery towards replacing some of the children's play equipment.    Further bids are being made to other funders to include facilities for the pre-school age group and the teenage area.   The Parish Council has been supporting this effort by accumulating some funding towards the project.    It is hoped to have this in place by February 2008.We strive to improve the appearance of our environment by keeping it free of litter   We have embarked upon bulb-planting along the verges and we maintain two planters in the centre of the village.    The railway waiting room is a Grade 11 listed building. Unfortunately, in the past it has been subjected to vanadalism.   After Central Trains re-instate it to its former glory, they have agreed to a mural, which is being worked upon by the local school children, to be placed inside.   The Community Association has also applied to 'Adopt the Station'.   We hope by doing so we will encourage the local community to take some responsibility for it.Most of our work is paid for by any profit we are able to make from social events.   These events serve the dual purpose, of bringing together people in the community at visiting theatre groups or themed supper evenings and paying for some of our other projects.   From time to time we also apply for assistance from outside funders.
