Further Description
  • The Gloucestershire Old Spots Pig Breeders' Club was formed in 1989 to bring together breeders and enthusiasts of the breed in an effort to better promote the Orchard Pig. Originally from the Berkeley Vale where is was kept on dairy farms and in cider apple orchards, the GOS is the oldest spotted pedigree pig breed in the world. It also holds the record for the highest price paid for a pig at public auction in the UK. The Club now has over 350 members mainly in the UK but also in the USA, France and Ireland. Benefits of membership include a quarterly full colour news letter, free advertising on the website and in Spot Press, free public liability cover whilst showing pigs in the UK, participation at occasional workshops and social events. The Club organises an annual Show & Sale for pedigree GOS at Cirencester Cattle Market and four competitions annually - Champion of Champions which is held at the Royal Show, The Southern Championships at Newbury Show, the Northern Championships at the Great Yorkshire Show and the GOS Pig of the Year, a points-based award to the pig gaining most points throughout the show season.
