Further Description
  • The 2011 Open Gardens event in Ashton under Hill will be held on Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 June, between 1.00 and 6.00pm each day, and we're looking forward to another bumper weekend. This is a major fundraising occasion for St Barbara’s Church and for the Community Centre, as well as being an enjoyable occasion for the village and our many visitors.

This year we expect to have over 20 gardens open for visitors, ranging from traditional country cottage and vegetable gardens, to rose and shrub displays, formal designs and larger landscaped plots - all with a wide variety of plants. Keen gardeners will enjoy talking to garden owners about the challenges behind their particular layout and their choice of planting. There will also be a free exhibition in St Barbara's Church and as in previous years there will be the opportunity to buy a wide selection of quality plants.

In St Barbara's Church we will be hosting a fascinating exhibition of botanical paintings by the renowned Gloucestershire artist and RHS Gold Medallist Beth Phillip. Beth will be working in St Barbara’s throughout both days of our Open Gardens event; her paintings, prints and cards will be available to purchase. After a very successful debut last year, talented local musicians 'Maxed Out' will again be performing in St Barbara's Church at 2.30pm and 4.00pm on Saturday 11 June. In February 'Maxed Out' were winners in their category in the Wychavon W Factor talent competition and so will be performing at a number of local events in 2011. Be sure not to miss their sessions for Open Gardens!

When you feel the need for rest and relaxation you can enjoy some refreshments - lunches, cream teas, afternoon teas from the WI or the full menu in the village pub. Gardens will be open from 1.00pm to 6.00pm on both Saturday and Sunday. Admission to the event is just £5.00 per person, children free, and this gives entry on both days. Free use of the special bus service throughout the village is included, allowing you time to see all of the gardens at your leisure. There's also ample free parking for cars and coaches. We look forward to welcoming you to Ashton under Hill for an enjoyable day out.
