Further Description
  •    We now have a Rotary Club in East Cornwall in what is sometimes referred to as the forgotten corner ! The club is named Torpoint Eddystone as all Rotary Clubs must have a centre of population in their name and there are very few people living on the Eddystone !  Our Rotary, like all the clubs world wide, seek to help the local and some international communities whatever and whenever the need arises. Already, in our first twelve months of existence, we have raised money for Shelter Boxes, for Wheelchairs, for Assistance dogs, for Local homeless young people, for Education equipment, for Mercy Ships, for Aquaboxes and we have offered help to the local Parkinson Centre in Torpoint. We raise the money largely by sponsoring events for which we sell tickets so that people can give while having an enjoyable time. To date we have held concerts and variety shows Carnglaze Caverns, at Downderry WMC, at the Finnygook in Crafthole and at our home location the Whitsand Bay Hotel in Portwrinkle. We have also run stalls at the Lions Fayre in Antony House and the Hospice Fayre in Mt.Edgcumbe as well as selling donated items at table top sales around the area,  The aim Rotary is to be mindful of others and is particularly famed for its aim to eradicate polio from the planet and for initiating the shelter box scheme which has now grown to be an independent charity. Many details about Rotary may be found on http://www.ribi.org.uk/ and some details of our local endeavours on www.snipurl.com/torpointeddystone   We are looking to recruit new members to this new club so if you are interested please contact our secretary Geoff Barrell on 01503 250 494. We meet weekly on Monday evenings at 7.15 pm in the Whitsand Bay Hotel in Portwrinkle for a pleasant meal prior to a club meeting which might be a speaker of something for the charity business.
