Further Description
  • Medway Mediation, a Charitable Company Limited by Guarantee, established in 1995, aims to help resolve disputes within the local  community.  As areas of need have been identified within the Medway area, we have strived to meet those needs by expanding and developing our service provision accordingly.Medway Mediation provides a free, impartial and confidential, conflict resolution service to residents and employees.  The organisation consists of : Management Board of 9 Trustee Directors; 3x F/T, 4 x P/T staff and 38 Mediation volunteers. Medway Mediation is currently working towards full accreditation by the Community Legal Service and is committed to achieving this by June 2007.    Areas of work that Medway Mediation currently cover are:  Neighbour Mediation – empowering neighbours in dispute to resolve issues that exist between them by enabling them to take responsibility for the conflict and ownership of the resolution/agreement reached. To date over 3,000 local people have benefited. We accept all cases referred to us and  have a resolution rate involving a full or partial agreement in 45% of cases.  Victim/Offender Mediation – enabling victims and the person who has offended against them to draw a line under the incident(s) and to move forward. In the past 2 years we have dealt with 40 victims and offenders with both low and high tariff offences. 70% of cases result in direct or indirect mediation and of these 100% have resulted in a full agreement. Peer Mediation – Training young people between the ages of 10 and 18 to mediate disputes in school between their peers, such as bullying, discrimination and harassment, making the school community a safer place.   Restorative Justice Conferencing in schools – dealing with the higher end of anti social and offending behaviour in school, bringing together  those who have caused harm and those who have been harmed (including parents and school staff)  aimed at reducing permanent and fixed term exclusions, authorised and unauthorised absence. Medway Mediation works in partnership with a large number of statutory, voluntary and community agencies, locally, regionally and nationally.
