Further Description
Bracknell L.E.T.S – meets in Newbold School hall, Popeswood Rd on 1st Weds of each month, 7-9pmCost - £6 waged individual, £3 unwaged individual (£8 & £4 family) LETS stands for Local Exchange Trading System. It’s a barter system that enables people to exchange good & services with minimal use of money. It’s a self-help community initiative that encourages the sharing of skills & resources. Members advertise their goods & services in a regularly produced directory. They trade with each other writing a LETS cheque at the end of each transaction. This is then passed on to the group accountant who adds or subtracts from your account. The group sets its own rate of exchange; in Bracknell the rate is 20 BRICKS an hour. Think of LETS credits as ‘favours’ rather than ‘money’ as everyone’s time is equally appreciated. Members pay in BRICKS but if costs are incurred, this is paid in cash. Unlike normal bartering you don’t have to do a direct swap & can start trading even before you have any bricks. A small annual subscription covers, postage & printing costs. LETS is open to all – individuals, families, waged & unwaged. Groups meet regularly to exchange ideas & trade with each other. LETS is a very social & mutually rewarding enterprise. Almost everyone has something to offer. We all have skills and expertise. We can do many things e.g. wait in a member’s house to accept a delivery, feed the cat, water the plants while someone is away, an extra pair of hands to help with the autumn leaves, taking a car load of recycling to the centre, use of your washing machine when someone’s has broken down… the list is endless.LETS is like having a huge circle of friends who help each other – and that must be good for all!
