Further Description
  • Founded in 1888, Ashley Cricket Club has always had close links with the local village community. Latterly we have worked hard to establish links with local schools, providing further opportunities for youngsters to play as much cricket as possible. The ground is situated close to the major road transport routes (M6 and M56), while Ashley railway station is 200 yards from the ground on the Manchester to Chester line. Set in the quiet picturesque village of Ashley, the local public house (The Greyhound) offers a wide range of excellent food and fine ale. Groundsmen Steve Havery and Dave Twiney are working very hard to ensure that Ashley proudly has one of the best squares in the League, ensuring quality cricket for both batsmen and bowlers alike. In recent years we have hosted MBCCL representative matches. The new clubhouse was erected in 1995 providing spacious changing and showering facilities, an excellent lounge / bar where social, fund raising activities are held at regular intervals. We run 3 sides each weekend, the 1st and 2nd XI’s play in the Meller Braggins Cheshire Cricket league on Saturday. The 1st X1, under captain Liam O’Doherty had a great season and won the 3rd Division championship. The 2nd XI captained again by Andy Murray finished joint 2nd but missed out on promotion to the top division by virtue of one more defeat than Runcorn. The 3rd XI, captained by Dan Shelston, plays in the Murray Smith Cheshire County League on a Sunday, they lost only twice and had a thoroughly enjoyable season with some younger players playing a prominent part in the team. Friendly midweek fixtures are arranged throughout the year to ensure all members are provided with the opportunity to play regular cricket. In addition to this Ashley have an annual cricket tour to Devon in mid-July, providing good cricket [and bowls for the more senior members] along with the odd social drink or two.The club has a playing membership of around 65 and as the club moves into an exciting future within the Cheshire League structure, we will endeavour to attract cricketers who want to play on good surfaces, with excellent facilities and who enjoy all aspects of local club cricket.  If you would like to come and join in the fun, please get in touch with any of the club officers on the contacts page of the club's website. www.ashleycc.co.uk
