Further Description
  • Hertford Lions are dedicated to the idea that the men and women who live in a community are in the best position to know who needs help and why.
We are active fundraisers in the local community - for the local community.Fundraising events are planned to be also enjoyable socially for the members e.g. 60's/70's discos, Barn and Scottish Country Dances. Other revenue is derived from plant and car boot sales, Easter and Christmas raffles in pubs and clubs, Race Nights, etc.
We are supporters of all sections of the community - the young, elderly, under-privileged, handicapped and able bodied. We also support the Isabel Hospice, local hospitals and health centres.
In July 2007, companies ranked Lions Clubs International and its foundation the best non-governmental organisation worldwide with which to work, based upon programme execution, communication, adaptability and accountability. Over 440 companies involved with NGOs and international agencies decided this top ranking of 34 global organisations, which included such as WWF, UNESCO, UNICEF, Save the Children and Amnesty International. Source: Financial Times with Dalberg Global Development Advisors and the United Nations Global Compact.
Lions in Britain, Eire and Europe alone, donate around 5.7 million hours of their time and 88 million pounds in funds raised to humanitarian causes each year - earning the strap-line "Ordinary people - amazing things".
Meetings are held at 8.00 pm on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month at The Hertford Club, Lombard House, Bull Plain, Hertford SG14 1DT. Members are from all walks of life, regardless of occupation, race or religion, male or female.
