Further Description
  • We are trying to get the proposed A327 Hollow Lane / Brookers Hill / Cutbush Lane's staggered and traffic light controlled junction reviewed on safetly grounds. The main body of our committee live opposite the proposed junction, which we believe is unsafe, due to the configuration and mainly with the southbound traffic, leaving traffic lights at speeds and then two lanes merging into one on a bend, putting other road users coming north, pedestrians and cyclists at risk. There is a similar issue towards the Black Boy pub, where cycle lanes and foot paths are brought closer to the kerb once the grass verges are removed. We also believe that moving of the road at Brookers Hill should have been subject to seperate planning and not embedded in the plans for the 164 houses in Cutbush Lane. We are still awaiting documentation on this planning procedure from the Council. We also wish to have the Oak Tree at Lane End Farm's field, on corner of Cutbush Lane, saved from felling, because it's roots will be damaged during construction of the new road layout and therefore we are told it will be made unstable and unsafe. We believe that the roots can be bridged during this operation and/or the road adjusted slightly to accomodate the tree's preservation. There is also the issue of the Black Boy Roundabout's safety, with one fatality in the same 2 lanes into 1 situation. We feel the whole roundabout is confusing, cars come up on the inside, or overtake and overshoot the lights. People come off on the wrong roads and get totally lost. Already there have been a number of accidents on this roundabout and that's before the pedestrian section has been opened. We also intend to be very proactive in forming a village design statement and are currently compiling questionnaires from the village people. If you haven't completed one please ask and we would email, or you can collect one from us. Part of the village design statement and the current problems with the excessive building of houses in the village is the lack of infrastructure. New village people on these new estates, have been unable to sign on with doctors in the locality. We believe that some of the money paid by the builders under 106 payments should be diverted for this use.We are currently asking people to sign a petition to the Vice Chancellor of University of Reading, to put in amended plans to prevent the village being cut into half with the junction and also to preserve the large oak tree. If you haven't signed, please call us and we will tell you where you can sign it.
