Further Description
  • Friends of Pelsall Commons is a voluntary community group interested in maintaining the bio-diversity and accessibility of the local village commons. Our commons include North Common - a local SSSI which is a wild and rugged area previously the site of the old Ironworks. Also you can find areas of lowland heathland that is assumed to be in the region of 2000 years old (Floating Water Plaintain, found in very few areas of the UK, can be found in local pools as well as the main Cannock Extension of the Wyrley and Essington Canal). We have many other village commons and pools with a rich mixture of habitats encouraging a wide variety of wildlife.Pelsall is one of 7 villages nationally to have been awarded the title of "Rose Village". FoPC was intsrumental in achieving this, on behalf of the village, as part of the Queen's Golden Jubilee Year.FoPC work parties undertake many different types of habitat management, including tasks as simple as litterpicking, shrub maintenance and general work to improve the environment, which sometimes includes the hiring of a JCB for work involving re-structuring and maintenace of the pools. Everyone is welcome and with such simple tasks there is someting for everyone to do.Meetings are held every 3rd Thursday of each month at Pelsall Community Centre at 7.30pm, and everyone is welcome to have an input into whatever is on the agenda for the meeting. Membership is free.
