  • The WPAOG are members of the Federation of Astronomical Societies and have around 30 members. We are a relatively new group and were formed in 1998.During June/July 2004 we relocated our headquarters to Hopton Cottage, an old railwayman's cottage at the top of the Hopton Incline on the High Peak Trail 2 miles west of Middleton Top. Here we have really dark skies with virtually no light pollution - an astronomer's delight! The Milky Way from here is truly stunning.The cottage itself has two meeting rooms, toilet and kitchen facilities, an ideal refuge for those cloudy nights listening to a talk, watching slide shows or an astronomical video or just chatting about our favourite subject. Outside there is plenty of room to set up the telescopes.We are a friendly group with a large percentage of active members, but we could always do with more!
