Further Description
  • COMMUNITY CARE FOR THE ELDERLY is a registered charity that aims to offer help and support as and when it is required, but not to interfere with, or take over peoples' lives. Our Aims:* To provide the basic practical assistance to enable older people to live within their own homes as independently as possible;* To enable older people to maintain the standards they have set for themselves and are accustomed to;* To assist in the prevention of isolation, loneliness and ill-health;* To identify the varied needs of older people and link them with the most appropriate form of support;* To promote greater awareness in the community of the needs of older people.Day Centres:We have four Day Centres in Grantham and four in the surrounding district. We run one urban and one rural Centre on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Each Day Centre runs from 10.30 a.m. to 3.15 p.m. People attending Day Centres are given the opportunity to have a meal, make new friends, participate in a variety of social activities or discuss welfare matters with friendly, helpful advisers in a confidential manner. All members are encouraged to contribute to the planning of activity programmes. Each Day Centre features:* Door-to-door transport. In addition to steps, minibuses are equipped with tail-lifts to enable easy access for those with mobility problems;* A co-ordinator offering a wide range of activities aimed at keeping the body and mind both physically and mentally able.* Facilities to cater for a wide range of personal needs;Morning coffee and a midday lunch, at a modest charge to cover expenses;* Throughout the year, day trips and outings are arranged to many attractions and places of seasonal interest, for example: garden centres; pub lunches; Christmas shows etc. From time to time, members at individual Day Centres may identify needs for additional services locally. Current examples include chiropody and Holy Communion. All members are offered the opportunity to go on a bi-annual Community Care for the Elderly escorted group holiday.Volunteer Visiting:In accordance with our aims, we can arrange for a suitable volunteer to visit any older person who finds it difficult to access regular services. Although primarily a befriending service, many of our volunteers may undertake additional requests such as;* Collecting medication, or going to a shop when an emergency arises;* Walking a pet dog if the older person is incapable due to illness or temporary incapacity;* Assisting with correspondence or the posting of a letter;* Playing board games, changing library books, having tea or socialising;* Assisting with exercises;* Accompanying on holiday.Other Ways Community Care for the Elderly Can Help:Today we live in a society that expects us to complete forms for almost everything. This task can sometimes seem daunting to older people if they have poor eyesight or if they have never had to fill in such a form before. From time to time, older people sometimes find it difficult to discuss problems with those closest to them. Others may find it hard to be assertive when their views are not being taken seriously or are being ignored. These are situations when Community Care for the Elderly could be contacted. As part of our commitment to older people we will assist them in the best way possible with the assurance that anything divulged will be treated in the strictest confidence.Community Care for the Elderly4 St. Catherine's Road Grantham Lincs NG31 6TSTelephone: 01476 560 273If you wish to visit the office, please telephone to make an appointment.
