Further Description
  • Crudwell Recreation Action Group The Project started in April 2002. The late Rebecca Thomson who lived in Crudwell had asked that some money be donated after her death to restart a dormant project to build a sports facility in the village. Rebecca?s ability to think of others during her illness inspired a group to spring into action. Her husband Simon Thomson, Annie Smith, Jo England and Alan Smith formed Crudwell Recreation Action Group with the aim of raising the 43,000 required to build the courts. Despite many sceptics at the outset, this has been achieved in less than a year and the Crudwell Multi Sports Facility is open from 7th June 2003. It has been possible through the support and enthusiasm of local people and a number of funding bodies who have given their backing. The Multi Sports Facility has two tennis courts, a basketball court, a netball court and a five-a-side football pitch. It is available to everyone in the community through a simple booking system. CRAG would like to express special thanks to:North Wiltshire District Council Malmesbury Area 1 Committee which has awarded a 20,000 Viridor Credits which has awarded 10,000 under the Landfill Tax Credit Scheme Community First who helped us secure the funding from Virridor Credits Bison Plant Hire of South Cerney who generously helped with the initial ground levelling work Steve Dale of ACD Landscape Architects for the surveying design and planning work Crudwell Village Hall Fund Raising Committee which has donated 5,000 from its 2002 fund raising as well as committing further support from the 2003 Bike Ride All the participants in the 2002 Crudwell Fun Run and bike ride; and last but by no means least, to the CRAG Subscription Scheme Supporters, without whose faith in the idea and ongoing financial commitment, none of this would have been possible. There are many people who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to help secure all these funds, as well as those who have made donations and contributed in other ways. Unfortunately, space dictates that we cannot mention them all here now but we are indebted to them all.
