Further Description
  • Early in 1999 a few like minded people decided to get together to form a club which they hoped would be of benefit to them and anyone interested in computers, so the Bamford Computer Club was formed. During the course of our first year we have had speakers who have given us talks on a variety of subjects, from ?How to build a Web Page? to ?Telemedicine?, a look at how computerisation has affected local GPs. This year we are planning an even more varied schedule of events so watch the notice boards for details. In October last year a meeting was held to explore the possibility of having a Learning Centre in the Bamford Village Institute. After a very enthusiastic meeting of villagers the Computer Club decided to pursue the option. After a lot of hard work by the Computer Club and the University of Derby the Learning Centre was opened on 19th May. We now have two computers linked to Buxton College by video where people can study at a time and day to suit themselves and without the need to travel very far. If you would like to know what courses you can study there are Information Packs in Bamford Post Office, the Dentist, the Institute, and all the local pubs. Or contact Doug Brown, Lorna Wilson, Pete Hearnshaw or Sue Beckett. Even if you don'tt want to study you may like to have access to a computer for letter writing, poster making etc. The computers and the Internet are available on an hourly basis for a small charge by ringing Sue Beckett.
