  • Who Are We?The Orchestra is a group of musicians of varying abilities whose object is to learn and play music for the benefit of themselves and others. In so doing, it provides a social forum for like-minded individuals to improve their musical skills and to increase their knowledge of musical theory, technique and repertoire. Qualifications. Members of the Orchestra are USUALLY of ABRSM Grade-5 or higher standard, but enthusiastic players of lesser ability are welcome to join.NO AUDITIONS ARE HELD. We are confident that all players who stay with us gain from the experience and inevitably improve their playing skills. Present Structure. The structure comprises the normal four main sections of an orchestra: strings, woodwind, brass and percussion. Vacancies. Strings: Players from all disciplines of the string section are required, especially DOUBLE BASS. Wind: Players required for 1st and 2nd BASSOON.Brass: Players required for 1st and 2nd FRENCH HORN; players required for 1st and 2nd TRUMPET; players required for 1st, 2nd and Bass TROMBONE. Percussion: Player required for DRUMS, TRIANGLE, TAMBOURINE, etc. Rehearsals. Rehearsals take place throughout the Orchestra's season, which commences on the first Sunday in September and finishes on the last Sunday of the following June. They are scheduled to be conducted each week by musical director, Phillip Brookes. The Venue: The Memorial Hall, Church Lane, Wistaston, Crewe, Cheshire. The Time: 10.30 am on each Sunday throughout the season (except for Christmas, New Year, Easter and occasional Bank Holidays). Duration: 2 hours with 15-minute coffee/tea break. Membership. Duration: One year. Costs: �30 adult; �15 junior/student. Special rates apply for families and job seekers. Entitlements: All members have equal rights to facilities, voting, and election to the committee. Associations. The Orchestra is a fully paid member of Making Music (The National Federation of Music Societies). THE SOUTH CHESHIRE ORCHESTRA IS A REGISTERED CHARITY NUMBER 1002015.
