  • Addington Heritage Society [AHS] was founded in 2000, with the aim to record historical and social events which have occured throughout the history of the ancient parish of Addington.A quarterly magazine is published.Another avenue is establishing the number of species of trees in the hedgerows.House history and residents of Addington from the 12thc are possible avenues the Society may explore.If the Society grows sufficiently then speakers will be invited at members evenings.Again with sufficient interest walks around the village and church can be arranged.Addington Place [Palace] is leased to a private company but opens it doors for free guided tours during the year. The times are advertised in the local press.The church of St Mary often opens to coincide with the Addington Place open days.The ancient parish of Addingtonwas m uch larger than today. Parts of Shirley, including Ham, and all of New Addington belonged to the manor.
